On May 9, 2014, Judge Bill Burke, 189th Judicial District Court, Harris County, Texas, signed and entered a judgment in the amount of $3.3 Million against Austin Industrial Services, L.P., an industrial contractor. The judgment was based on a verdict in the amount of $4.3 Million that had been rendered by a Harris County jury on February 21, 2014. The jury verdict was reduced by $1 Million as a result of a previous settlement with another defendant before trial. The Plaintiff, Jose Perez, was seriously injured in a refinery along the Houston Ship Channel when a large steel plate fell into the coke pit in which he was working. Evidence introduced at trial established that the plate fell while being moved by an Austin employee who knew that Mr. Perez was in the pit working. Mr. Perez is represented by Sammons & Berry, P.C., in Houston, Texas.
